Writer, musician, film director, alchemist, mystic, eccentric and generally a Budapest celebrity - Jurii Kirnev last week released his new music album in the gothic symphonic metal genre. The album is called "Gothesque", and this time Juri Kirnev allowed himself to collaborate with a talented musical group from the city of Samara, Tears of Heaven, founded by guitarist and vocalist Dmitry Lykov.In 2015, Tears of Heaven released their debut music album "The Secret", after which the band broke up almost immediately and ceased to exist until in 2017 Jurii Kirnev contacted Dmitry Lykov and offered him and the remains of his team the new ideas and unique musical directions. With Kirnev's participation, the band came alive again, and Tears of Heaven began working on their new music album.The task that this album set for itself was to convey a certain theatrical aesthetic, bordering on gothic, classicism, witchcraft and absolute madness. It was supposed to be not just an album in the gothic metal genre, but an album without a single genre, combining the entire kaleidoscope of gothic culture within itself because when we say the term "Gothic", a variety of images pop up in our heads: European architecture, Victorian literature about ancient manors, German Impressionism, black and white cinema with Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, Satanism, Bauhaus, Marilyn Manson and even Brandon Lee in his icon film role "The Crow". Gothic is too broad a term to have a single meaning.When creating the album, Jurii Kirnev didn't want to focus on a single Gothic direction but decided to embrace all possible Gothic directions at the same time, both in terms of music, as well as lyrics and feelings that these songs are able to convey.

In his interviews, Jurii Kirnev said that he looked at the music album like a dark museum. The inspiration was the very first Gothic art gallery in human history, which existed long before the term "Gothic" was even coined. We are talking about the famous grotto of the mad Roman emperor Nero. Nero was a patron of the arts, and he amassed a collection of rare and unique pieces of art from across the empire. In a sense, it was also the first cabinet of curiosities in recorded history. Nero's Grotto kept such artsy and strange exhibits in itself that since then the word "grotesque" has appeared.By the way, Jurii Kirnev already wrote about this ambiguous emperor in his novel "Lips coloured in blood". And also some Bible scholars believe that the Beast from the book of the Apocalypse was supposed to be Nero himself. What could be more gothic than this? This is exactly what Jurii Kirnev is famous for, since in his works he creates symbolism in everything, even where you do not expect it.Kirnev wanted to make a small grotesque gothic museum sealed in sounds. This is how the word&nbsp; "Gothesque" appeared. Goth + Grothesque = Gothesque. How cool is that?

Each individual song on the album unearths a unique story and sets its own tone and palette. And some of the songs grow from one to another. For example, the very first song on the album - called "Black Wedding" - starts as heavy dark mystical metal, but in the end, it turns into a romantic Viennese waltz, which you can dance to at the Budapest ball in fancy gothic evening dresses.&nbsp;"The Crow" song - flies far and is an urban gothic, with the noise of street sirens and the echo of the wind piercing high skyscrapers in the night. The album even has a heavy black metal growl and a gentle lullaby with hints of northern folklore. But even in the lullaby, the authors were able to hide the beautiful motifs of dangerous gothic, because this is not a lullaby not for children, but for wolves. It's called "Lullaby for Wolves".However, the crown jewel of the album is its last composition called "Clamor Gothici" - the gothic cry. It is impossible to find words to describe the genre of this work. It's a 15-minute chorale opera with an orchestra that turns into heavy electric guitar riffs. It's one of the longest contemporary songs we've heard, yet it doesn't get boring or repetitive in any way as every minute the music evolves into something new, unlike anything that has been heard previously. If you take scissors and chop it, there could be 4 or even 5 songs, that seamlessly, merge into each other. This is truly a masterpiece. And the most amazing thing is that this mysterious opera was written in Latin. A monumental text in rhyme, which can now be safely called the new anthem of Gothic culture. This composition can be performed both on the underground rock scene and in the Royal Philharmonic Theatre. &nbsp;

The &nbsp;"Gothesque" album sets a new standard for how a modern gothic metal album should sound, and how diverse and profound the music and lyrics should be.
